JOHN SAUNDERS KILLING 1928

📌During the Indian independence movement, John Saunders was a British police officer stationed in Lahore, Punjab.

📌He was notorious for using brutal tactics to suppress the Indian independence movement, and he was responsible for the deaths of several Indian activists.

📌A peaceful protest was organised in 1928 against the Simon Commission, a British commission tasked with reviewing and recommending constitutional reforms in India.

📌When John Saunders ordered his police officers to brutally beat Indian independence leader Lala Lajpat Rai with lathis, he was leading the protest (sticks).

📌Lajpat Rai was seriously injured and died as a result of his injuries.

📌Bhagat Singh and his Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) associates, including Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar, were outraged by Lajpat Rai's death and decided to seek revenge on John Saunders, whom they believed was directly responsible for the incident.

📌They shot and killed John Saunders in Lahore on December 17, 1928.

The assassination of John Saunders was a major turning point in the Indian independence movement, galvanizing public support for Indian independence.

CENTRAL LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY 1929

📌The Central Legislative Assembly was British India's legislative body, in charge of enacting laws and regulations for the entire country.

📌In 1929, the Indian National Congress, the leading political party at the time, decided to boycott the Assembly in protest of the government's repressive policies and refusal to grant India full Independence.

📌In response to the government's decision to pass the Public Safety Bill and the Trade Dispute Bill, Bhagat Singh and his associates in the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) decided to carry out a bomb attack on the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi on April 8, 1929.

📌The attack's goal was to draw attention to the British colonial government's repressive policies and to demand total independence for India.

📌Bhagat Singh and his associates successfully carried out a symbolic act of resistance against British rule by bombing the Central Legislative Assembly.

📌The thrown bombs caused no major casualties, but the incident sparked widespread outrage and brought attention to the ongoing struggle for Indian independence.

Bhagat Singh and his associates were eventually apprehended and sentenced to death for their role in the assassination on March 23, 1931, but their actions inspired a new generation of Indian revolutionaries to continue the fight against British colonialism.
